Sea Ray has created a new group of entry-level, inexpensive Runabouts called SPX series. The SPX 210 and SPX OB are water sports focused Bowrider with flexible seating in the cockpit and with outboard or star drive power. The new 210 spxs should in some way appeal to a broad audience that wants to ride a budget boat and keep the operating costs low while at the same time having a good performance.
The well-styled SPX 210 is standard with the basics of water fun, but sports enthusiasts will want to revalue both models with the ‘ height package ‘. The set-up installed in the factory includes elements such as an aluminium tube watchtower with board shelves, an integrated Bimini top and a mirror. In addition, there is an option for the very handy adhesive pass control system, which allows the pilot to adjust towing speeds for each individual. This assumes that you are a skier and that you get the same train every time. No matter how the sport is, a large locker in the sole of the cockpit offers storage space for skis, boards and other toys.
The outboard version we tested had the standard Mercury 150 fourstroke mounted on the rear side. Optionally, a 200-PS Mercury Verado can be used. The star Drive version of the SPX 210 is equipped with Mercruiser’s 4.3 litre, multi-port fuel-injected V6 with emission control technology (ECT). This engine produces 220-horsepower in compliance with the latest EPA clean air standards and is coupled with an alpha 1 star drive with aluminum support.
Is Mercruiser’s new 4.5 L V6, which has 250 horses with ECT, has an alpha 1 plate and a stainless steel support. Although there is only a 30-horsepower difference between the two, the 4.5 is the latest drive technology and will work better in airy or hot environments, and it comes with a stainless steel support that should mean a slightly better performance.
The dry weight of the boat 3,400 lb. (1,542 kg) and a 19-degree V-bottom hull were designed to allow a smooth, dry ride, even if the water is flat, but not so low-V, that maximum speed and fuel consumption are drastically affected. In fact, we were impressed with your dealings with our rough test. Of course with top speed we could generate some strokes, but to pull back to a reasonable speed, showed a surprisingly cool ride on and about the swelling while they remained dry. With the easy chopping she would jump from one wave to the next, with a smooth re-entry, which brings forth another pleasant ride.
